About Jo Carol Ciborowski

Born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Jo Carol Ciborowski lived a peripatetic life residing in the United States, Panama, and Germany, first as an Army brat and then as an Army spouse. She received her B.A. in English and Art from Western Maryland College in 1977. Ms. Ciborowski further developed her art skills in numerous workshops throughout her travels, becoming an official studio artist in 1999, after moving to Colorado Springs and deciding to make the city her permanent home.

As an art educator, she has taught in several elementary and high schools, as well as in a facility for developmentally disabled adults, sharing with her students the joy that comes from creating art. Ms. Ciborowski has exhibited her art in numerous regional shows— a one-woman show, several-two women shows, and dozens of juried group shows. Her work can be seen currently in Studio 102 at Cottonwood Center for the Arts.

artist statement

The past twenty years, I have been using mixed media to explore all things that make us human, especially our capacity for joy and for sorrow. My art has, at times, evoked both laughter and tears in my viewers, and I consider that the highest honor an artist can achieve. My art has given me a therapeutic way to delve into personal issues and has provided a path in dealing with life’s inevitable vicissitudes. Humor, my favorite coping skill, plays an integral role in my art. I recently painted a portrait of a cow on pegboard, my “Holy Cow.” Because art should be fun. And sometimes funny.
